The winners of the Ploi Thai Jewelry Creation Award were unveiled at the Bangkok Gems & Jewelry Fair today.
The competition is part of the Thai jewellery industry’s Gem &
Jewelry trends 2012 SME Branding Project, which launched in November.
The aim of the project is to raise international awareness of Thai
jewellery design and it works with undiscovered designers to help them
tap into trends information and promote their work abroad.
The competition was given the theme Extreme Colours of Ploi Thai – Ploi
Thai is the brand used to describe all gems manufactured or polished in
Thailand and promote it internationally – and as a result many of the
winning designs featured an array of bright gemstones.
The top award was presented to Art of Jewels for an oversized gold and
gemstone pendant necklace and matching cuff. First runner-up prize was
awarded to Brilliance Jewelry for its bejeweled eye mask and the 2nd
runner up prize was given to Draco Jewellery for a gold and enamel
floral brooch.
The winning designs are on display at the Bangkok Gem & Jewelry Fair
at a purpose-built pavilion in the atrium. The pieces will also be used
for the pavillion’s daily trend-led jewellery catwalk shows.
