UPDATE 1-Aurizon Mines says gold reserves at Quebec mine up 44 pct
(Reuters) - Canada's Aurizon Mines said gold mineral reserves at its Casa Berardi mine in northwestern Quebec rose 44 percent in 2010.

The gold reserves at Casa Berardi mine, whose life has been extended from six to 10 years, rose to 1.5 million ounces. Total mineral reserves at the mine was 7,854,000 tonnes.

The mid-tier gold miner said next year it plans to update mineral resources at Casa Berardi following an aggressive diamond drilling program totalling 115,000 metres.

"Casa Berardi continues to confirm our initial expectations that it can deliver sustainable, profitable production for many years to come," the Mexico-focused miner said in a statement.

In January, the company had said it expects to produce 165,000-170,000 ounces of gold in 2011 at Casa Berardi mine.

The mine has produced over 1.3 million recovered gold ounces since it started production in 1986. (Reporting by Bhaswati Mukhopadhyay in Bangalore
