METALS MOVER: Anglo American Appoints MTN's CEO Nhleko To Board

LONDON -(Dow Jones)- Globally diversified miner Anglo American PLC (AAL.LN) said Wednesday its has appointed Phuthuma Nhleko, the group president and chief executive officer of telecommunications company MTN Group, as non-executive director with immediate effect.
Nhleko, 50, is South African and has been chief executive of the multinational telecommunications group since 2002. MTN is currently established in 21 countries in Africa and the Middle East, with revenues in excess of $15 billion in 2009.
Nhleko will stand down as group president and CEO at the end this mopnth and will become the non-executive vice-chairman of MTN Group and chairman of MTN International, both of which are non-executive roles.
Nhleko is the fourth new non-executive director appointed to the board of Anglo American since the appointment of Anglo American's chairman, Sir John Parker, on Aug. 1 2009.
"I have been deeply impressed by Phuthuma's leadership," Parker said in a statement. "His broad international business experience will lend further strength to our board," he added.
