U.S. stocks gain more ground as banks rally
SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- U.S. stocks gained more ground in New York's early afternoon trading Tuesday, finding support as Bank of America Corp. /quotes/comstock/13*!bac/quotes/nls/bac (BAC 14.67, +0.64, +4.56%) led gains in the banking sector. The Dow Jones Industrial Average /quotes/comstock/10w!i:dji/delayed (DJIA 12,239, +148.53, +1.23%) tacked on 152.43 points, or 1.3%, to 12,242.46 in recent dealings, after trading at a low of 12,072.21 earlier. The S&P 500 Index /quotes/comstock/21z!i1:in\x (SPX 1,324, +13.48, +1.03%) rose 14.77 points to 1,324.90 and the Nasdaq Composite /quotes/comstock/10y!i:comp (COMP 2,770, +24.07, +0.88%) was 28.51 points higher at 2,774.14. Among financials, Bank of America shares added 4%.
