Keep your mouth shut, Wenger! Wolves chief blasts Arsenal boss over double standards after defending Wilshere tackl

The debate over Arsene Wenger's defence of tough tackling Jack Wilshere has been re-opened after he was warned by Wolves: Keep your mouth shut!

Wenger has been a vocal critic of the rough challenges that have caused a string of serious injuries in the Barclays Premier League.

But he was accused of double standards when he defended Wilshere over his horrific tackle on Birmingham's Nikola Zigic when earned him a red card.

Now Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey has hit out at Wenger, insisting the Frenchman is talking nonsense.

He told BBC's 5Live: 'It is an absolute nonsense. Well, I hope he hears this: keep your mouth shut. Play the game, play aggressive, let everybody play.

'Wilshere and your [Wenger's] other players are going to make similar challenges.'

Moxey, whose own club have been heavily criticised for their physical approach, added: 'I had a big, wry smile listening to Arsene Wenger trying to defend Jack Wilshere for the challenge.

'All he said was exactly the same as every other manager has and yet he is one of the managers who goes on the front foot, moaning and complaining and bitching about it because it is unfair on his team.'

Moxey, who was talking ahead of Wolves' Carling Cup defeat at Manchester United on Tuesday night, saw his team come under attack after Karl Henry broke Fulham striker Bobby Zamora's leg with a tough tackle.

Henry was also fined two weeks' wages by Wolves after a wild challenge on Wigan's Jordi Gomez earlier this month, which saw him sent off.
