Important Announcement:

The New Large Number Site

Welcome to my New Large Number Site. This replaces my Old Large Number Site that was hosted on Classic Google Sites. Since I opted to upgrade I was able to retain my old web address for my New Site. What this means is if you were already familiar with my Old Site you will easily be able to find my New Site in the same place.

If you are New to The Large Number Site (LNS), allow me to give a brief introduction: The LNS is a website devoted almost exclusively to the subject of very large finite numbers, and to a lesser extent, numeric extremes of all kinds. That is to say, the LNS deals with all sorts of exotic numbers that you are not likely to encounter in day-to-day life, with a focus on finite numbers far larger than those encountered in any fields other than abstract mathematics. The goal of the site is to expose a larger general audience to the mathematics and background necessary to speak about large numbers vastly larger than anything with any practical application. To be clear, I'm not talking about very large and small numbers spoken about in astronomy, cosmology, and particle physics, that are commonly expressed with scientific notation. These numbers are vastly larger than that in a way that defies ordinary language. The kinds of large numbers I'm talking about are those that only occur in obscure and esoteric areas of mathematics. If you've heard of the Googolplex or Graham's Number then think that ... but much much larger, and you'll have some idea.

Anyway, because the upgrade has essentially transformed the LNS into a new website, and since some of the content was altered slightly in the transfer process, sometimes actually damaging certain pages, I've decided to roll over the next major version, alpha 2.0.0.0.0. Version 2.0 of the LNS is released, as always, on an "as-is" basis. Issues with the website caused by the transfer process, as well as any legacy issues, will be hammered out as the site continues to be developed.

Whether you are new to the LNS, or a long time reader, I hope you will enjoy your stay.
